Planet Color™ Automotive Finishes Steal the Show on Speed Channel Program
Unique Custom Finishes Bring New Cars to Life As Celebrities 'Payback' Friends and Family Who Have Helped Them in Their Career
Warrensville Heights, OH – Imagine having someone say "thanks" by handing you the keys to a brand, new custom car. It happens on every episode of "Payback," a new reality television show on The Speed Network.
But in a unique twist, it is celebrities who are paying tribute to someone who has helped them along the way and made a difference in their life – and Planet Color™, the new optically enhanced coatings from Sherwin-Williams Automotive . Recently, Jay Leno thanked Comedy Lounge owner, Mike Lacey with a candy apple red, convertible Corvette. As it turns out, Lacey gave Leno his first shot onstage at the Comedy Lounge and allowed him to come back on Sundays to practice his routine for upcoming tours. Leno tributes this start and his friend's support, with his successful career and wanted to say "thanks" in a grand way.
One of the key aspects of each segment is a behind-the-scenes look at how the cars are detailed and 'tricked' out. Highlights include the celebrities carefully planning and overseeing every custom detail, for a truly unique and meaningful gift. For example, the '06 Corvette features the Comedy Lounge's distinctive logo stitched onto the seats and floor mats and special Planet Color finishes from Sherwin-Williams Automotive, one of the show's sponsors.
Other celebrities in the series include actor Jim Caviezel, Brooke Burke, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Tim Duncan, power forward for the San Antonio Spurs. Duncan grew up in the Virgin Islands playing side by side with Rashidi Clenance, his best friend and fiercest competitor. While Duncan made it big in the NBA, Clenance coaches basketball teams at home through the local Boys and Girls Clubs. Duncan gave his friend an H2 Hummer with leather seats made from basketballs and center court-styled hardwood flooring.
"Partnering with the Payback series has given Sherwin-Williams finishes celebrity status," said Tom Hablitzel, Vice President, Marketing, Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes. "The optically enhanced colors of Planet Color add to the personalization of the cars making the gifts even more meaningful. This has been an exciting opportunity for Sherwin-Williams to work with well-known celebrities like Jay Leno and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and be involved in the unique programming of Payback."
Payback airs at 10 p.m. EST Wednesdays on The Speed Channel.
